Lion (Boo) 101-102

This series of captive animals images was made at Lions, Tigers and Bears, located here in punta Gorda. This licensed facility offers very good homes and care to those animals no longer wanted by their owners. This male Lion (Boo) was over 700 pounds and was born in captivity and is now 5 1/2 years old.

Zena Portrait, Eyes of Zena

Zena ia Boo's cell mate. Although Boo is unable to breed, which is a goal of the keepers to not breed these animals, he is hers for life. Zena is 6 years olds, also born in captivity, and weighs in at over 500 pounds.

Florida Couger, 101-102

This captive born Florida Couger/Panther's name is Sammy. He is 11 years old and weighs 185 pounds. Sammy is leash trained, very well manered and rides in a car when he goes to school. Sammy is used for education purposes at the local  schools.

Floridza Bob Cat, 101-102

This is a Florida Bob Cat. Her name is Mikki-Bob. She is only about 10 months old ,very playful and full on energe. I could go into her cage with the owner and photogaph her, but she bounced around as most youngsters do at that age.

These are just some of the interesting reptiles and critters here in Southern Florida.

The diversity of shore birds along the coast here in SW Florida are many. Some travel inland to set up colonies while some migrate to the shorelines of the coast during the winter months.

With its diversity, Charlotte Harbor offers outstanding photography. The shorline surrounding the Harbor and the esturaries of transitional freshwater inflows from the Myakka and Peace Rivers as well as the many smaller creeks are vital to this large expansive harbor. The mangrove trees are used by many species of shore birds for rookeries and nightly roosting. The root systems of these trees harbor the small crustasions and juvenile fishes of not only the harbor but also the larger fishes of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sunrises and Sunsets here in SW Florida and especially over the waters of the rivers and creeks and Charlotte Harbor are some of the best to be made anywhere. The afterglow of pastel colors against the silhouetted trees and endless shoreline structures offer outstanding compositions.
